Why is L/100km inverse?
L/100km measures fuel used per distance (lower is better), while km/L and mpg measure distance per fuel (higher is better), so they relate by division: mpg(US) = 235.215 / (L/100km).
US vs UK gallon?
A UK (imperial) gallon is larger than a US gallon, so UK mpg figures are higher for the same car.
